HOW YOUR NP PAL BEGAN

Why does every generation of Nurse Practitioners have to start from zero?

Every year, thousands of Nurse Practitioners graduate and step into some of the most challenging roles in healthcare.

They leave school carrying tremendous responsibility, yet many quickly realize that real patients rarely present like the textbook. There is no transition period. No one standing beside you for every difficult decision. You’re expected to be ready from day one.

Some eventually find their footing.

Others quietly second-guess themselves, over-order tests, refer patients they could have managed, or carry the weight of wondering if they’re missing something.

I know what that feels like because I lived it.

By that point, I had been a Nurse Practitioner for six years. During those years, I searched for what I thought would make this profession feel different.

Better jobs. Better pay. More autonomy. A different setting.

Like many providers, I believed the next opportunity would finally be the one that made everything click.

It never did.

One night after a long shift, I sat in my home office reflecting on those six years.

I wasn’t thinking about one difficult patient.

I was thinking about the journey.

About how many lessons had been learned the hard way.
About how difficult the transition into practice had been.

And one realization became impossible to ignore:

It shouldn’t have to be this hard.

That question stayed with me.

Why are so many Nurse Practitioners quietly carrying the weight of uncertainty without a practical resource to help them think through real-world clinical decisions?

That night, I realized I couldn’t stop thinking about one thing:

Not to discourage people.

To prepare them.

I wanted future Nurse Practitioners to understand the transition into practice before they experienced it themselves.

That’s when I decided to write a book.

As I sat there reflecting, another thought came almost instantly.

Three words.

Your NP Pal.

I wrote them down before I forgot them.

At the time, I thought I was writing the title of a book.

I had no idea it was becoming something much bigger.

Today, that idea has grown into Your NP Pal, a book, evidence-based Clinical Decision Tools, educational content, and a growing community built around one purpose:

To help Nurse Practitioners think clearly, practice boldly, and provide better patient care.

Because no one should have to figure this profession out alone.
